I have always been fascinated by nature. Its beauty and truth has
had a profound impact on my life. I chose to study biology so I could
learn more about what had always fascinated me. The more I learn about
biology, the greater my curiosity becomes. I am drawn to things that
are often ignored due to their esoteric nature. Insects and their
relatives have been the focus of my scientific and artistic studies.
Insects serve many important ecological roles and yet are rarely protected
by conservation efforts.
It is difficult to capture the magic of the natural world in artwork
but this challenge excites me. I have worked in scientific illustration,
painting, printmaking, and fiber arts. I am excited to combine fiber
art with the more or less two-dimensional media such as printmaking.
Natural fibers bring with them a randomness and earthiness that convey
some of the raw power of nature.
