The natural world is my inspiration. I use it to create a personal language from which I hope to convey the complexities of our world and our existence in it as it is. Landscape and nature has always inspired me as it often seems to be a reflection of the human condition. I take many photograps and sketch, sometimes bringing objects back to the studio as they interest me. I use these as a foundation and inspiration for my work.
Painting abstractions allows me to experiment and to push my compositions, allowing the conversation between myself and materials to evolve and to represent my take on life. I have come to realize that nature is beautiful and compelling, not because it is orderly, but because it isn’t. It is chaos, and it is life and it just is.
Process is an important part of art making and I am incapable of squelching its appearance from the final product. I enjoy what I do too much. I’m happy if my work can convey the energy that occurs in each and every moment.
